Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera

Mending the main sail

We are back in Hatchet Bay in northern Eleuthera. We left here over seven weeks ago and since then, have circled the center of the Bahamas. Feeling more seasoned now, we have come to appreciate the value of patience. It takes much less effort to occupy our time with simple pursuits then to try to keep a schedule against the wind. These simple pursuits include, but are not restricted to walking pink sand beaches, doing laundry, biking miles of near empty roadways, hauling gerry cans of water, reading, napping, studying the charts of our next destination, swimming, sipping wine in the cockpit, modifying sail handling techniques, sail mending, watching birds, dinghy sailing, scraping wood work, grocery shopping and sometimes doing nothing at all. We traveled the length of Eleuthera, sailed the Exumas from north to south, traveled Cat Island from end to end, and stopped over at Little San Salvador on our way back to Hatchet Bay. Heading north now we are into the last month of this seventh month adventure and it feels right. I ( Mark) am ready to sail home, but I am in no hurry. I have learned the value of patience.
